18th Nov 2022 Fundraising for Children in Need

We thrive to help the community, and Children in Need is a great opportunity to chip in. Our very own Andy Pea, Artist in Residence declared he doesn’t really like Brian Adams. Oh, and that he can’t dance.

We therefore plotted that this year to raise funds he would attempt to dance for an hour on The Big Drive Home, and to some special music from our fave Canadian – dad dancer’s everywhere sorry!

1 October 2022 – ShoutOut! Radio

ShoutOut! Students working in the studio

This project is to give access to broadcasting and digital media to the youth of West Hull, teaching them the practical skills and techniques to producing and presenting their own radio show. This project is about casting out the net into the local community in search of new presenters and give them access to take their first steps into radio and the wider world of digital media.

The ambition for the project is to create a team from a group of young people who are from the same community, but paths had never crossed, and build a sense of understanding, trust, and confidence through creative actions.

The project is funded by The National Lottery community fund and run by Andy P and Dave O. See here for more photos from our 2022 students.

28 Sept 2022 – Improved FM Coverage

We have been struggling for some months with poor coverage on 106.9FM. This is a result of our transmission system on the roof of Hull Royal Infirmary literally wearing out! As an organisation that relies on donations, bids and sponsorship, the cost of the new equipment represented a significant investment for us.

We also worked with Ofcom in order to increase the power that we are allowed to transmit, and are pleased to say that our new equipment is now installed and on air. We are very pleased with the results, and can now offer a strong signal to Hull, the villages of East Yorkshire and parts of North Lincolnshire. We are already enjoying hearing from new listeners, and welcome reception reports on studio@westhullfm.org.uk
